November Sunsets in Mumbai: Where to Watch Them, Area by Area

Sunset in Mumbai lands between about 18:00 and 18:15 through November, and where you stand changes everything — here is how the west-facing neighbourhoods compare.

November Sunsets in Mumbai: Where to Watch Them, Area by Area

Marine Drive and Girgaon Chowpatty: the easy default

The Queen's Necklace curve from Nariman Point to Girgaon Chowpatty faces due west across Back Bay, which is why it is the most reliable sunset seat in the city. In November the sun drops behind the Malabar Hill ridge rather than the water, so you get a lit sky and a silhouetted skyline rather than a clean horizon. Arrive by 17:15 to claim a stretch of the sea wall; locals sit facing the road, not the sea. The promenade is free and open all hours, and the walk back to Churchgate station takes about 20 minutes.

Hotels around Marine Drive and Churchgate sit in the upper mid-range to five-star band, and November is already high season thanks to Diwali and the run-up to Christmas, so book two to three weeks ahead rather than on the day. If you want the sunset from your room rather than a wall, ask specifically for a sea-facing floor above the third — lower rooms look at traffic. I would book here for a first trip: you can walk to Colaba, Kala Ghoda and the Oval Maidan in under half an hour.

Bandra Bandstand and Carter Road: sunsets with a crowd

Bandra's western edge gives you two options. Bandstand, below Shah Rukh Khan's house Mannat, faces west over the Arabian Sea and draws a steady evening crowd of walkers, couples and street-food sellers; the sun sets over the water here from roughly late October, which is why November works so well. Carter Road promenade in Khar West is longer, quieter at the northern end, and has benches and a small amphitheatre. Both are free. Bandra station is about a 15-minute auto ride from either, and the drive from Churchgate takes 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic on the Sea Link approach.

Bandra hotels run from boutique guesthouses in Pali Hill and Ranwar village to larger business hotels near the station, generally a notch cheaper than Colaba for similar quality. It is the better base if you plan to spend evenings on Carter Road and days in Bandra's cafes and Bandra Fort, which itself gives a fine west-facing view over the sealink. Skip the Bandstand benches on Sunday evenings in November — the crush is genuinely unpleasant.

Juhu Beach and Versova: the widest horizon

Juhu's sand gives you the longest uninterrupted west-facing sightline in the suburbs, and November's clearer post-monsoon air makes it noticeably better than the hazy summer months. The sunset is best from the northern stretch near Juhu Tara Road, away from the food stalls clustered at the main entrance. Versova jetty, at the end of Yari Road, is rougher underfoot but quieter and faces open water; fishermen's boats cross the foreground. Both are free, and both are a 10 to 15 minute auto ride from Andheri West metro station on Line 2A.

Juhu and Andheri West hotels are mostly mid-range and well suited to travellers flying in or out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which is 15 to 25 minutes away outside peak hours. Rooms here are usually better value than south Mumbai, and the trade-off is distance: reaching Colaba or Fort takes 50 to 80 minutes by road. If your trip is three nights or fewer and sunset is the priority, I would still book south Mumbai and visit Juhu for one evening rather than the reverse.

Worli Sea Face and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link

Worli Sea Face promenade runs south from the Sea Link's landing point and faces west across the bay toward Bandra, so the November sunset frames the bridge itself. It is a residential stretch with a strong local evening scene — walkers, children's cricket, vendors — and no entry fee. Access is by taxi or auto from Mahalaxmi station, about 10 minutes. The Sea Link drive northbound around 17:45 is the other way to do it: the toll applies, the view of the sun dropping behind Bandra is the best in the city, and it takes about 15 minutes end to end.

Worli and Lower Parel hotels are business-oriented, mid-range to five-star, and convenient if you have meetings in BKC or Lower Parel. For a leisure trip built around sunsets, though, this area is a compromise: you are 25 to 40 minutes from Colaba and equally far from Bandra. My pick for a November visit is two nights near Churchgate for the Marine Drive and Colaba sunsets, then two in Bandra for Carter Road and the fort — that split covers the best of the west coast without long evening commutes.

Questions travellers ask

What time does the sun set in Mumbai in November?

Roughly 18:00 at the start of the month, moving earlier to about 17:55 by the end. Allow 30 minutes either side for the best colour, and arrive 40 minutes early if you want a seat on the Marine Drive sea wall.

Which area is best for a hotel if I want sunsets?

Churchgate and Marine Drive for a first trip, since the promenade is on your doorstep and Colaba is walkable. Bandra suits travellers who prefer cafe evenings and Carter Road. Juhu is best only if the airport is your priority.

Do I need to pay to watch the sunset anywhere in Mumbai?

No. Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandstand, Carter Road, Juhu Beach, Versova jetty and Worli Sea Face are all free public spaces. The only cost is a taxi or auto to reach them, or the toll if you drive the Sea Link.
